DayZ – Day 6

Are you afraid of the dark?

Day 6 is a tale of bumbling around in the dark and staring at things 3ft from my face. When the sun goes down in Chernarus you better hope you have some flares. If you don’t you may be in this situation:

After wondering around in circles for a while I remembered that I had some flares in my backpack. I struck a flare, the first thing I noticed was that it really doesn’t throw a lot of light around. It gives out just enough light so that you can follow a path or trail, but you cannot see your destination.

I jogged along the beach for a while, I was very aware that I was now illuminated like a Christmas tree but It was the only way I could travel. I stopped every once in a while to check if I was being followed, not that I could see anything past my gun anyway.

It wasn’t long until I made my first contact. It was right on the edge of the beach, a pale shadow in the distance. I stopped and dropped my torch, I approached the figure slowly and soon figured out that it was a human. He wasn’t moving so I walked up to him, with my pistol drawn. He still didn’t move. I decided not to investigate too long and I continued on my way. I later found out that the person in question was a bandit (probably on a toilet break).

I had been travelling for around forty minutes at this point and had not come across a zombie of any sort. This was an unsettling feeling… Don’t ask me why. It just was. This game seems to be able simulate the feeling of loneliness almost too well.

I decided to leave it there for the day and continue my journey in the light of day.
