DayZ – Day 3

Marty

Day 3 begins immediately where Day 2 ended… With a guy running for his life from three terrifying zombies.

I looked down my sights and tried to target one of the zombies. I couldn’t get a clear shot, they were too far away. I knelt down, still holding my rifle to my shoulder.

I decided that I couldn’t wait any longer or I’d be swamped in zombies any moment now.

I fired the Winchester. ‘Did I hit one?’ I thought to myself.

I fired again. A zombie dropped to the ground. They were very close now. I quickly took out the second zombie.I aimed carefully down the sights, trying desperately not to target the human. I pulled the trigger again… CLICK!

I had used all my slugs. I proceeded to panic quite considerably. Then I remembered I still had the Makarov, I quickly equipped it, but it was too late. The human ran past me and I was hit dead on by a zombie. The screen shook and went a greyish colour. ‘I think I’m being eaten’…

I heard a rapid succession of gun shots and the zombie, that was still feasting on my face, dropped to the ground.

I turned around, his name was Marty. He was aiming the gun at me. We just looked at each other for a while. Then I heard a faint voice come over the speakers.

“Thanks man, I’m Marty.”

I didn’t even know this game had a voice-chat feature, I was a little shocked. In fact, the chat feature works in a brilliant fashion. Only people within shouting distance can hear you and the further away you are the harder it is to hear them.

“You got a mic?” Marty asked.

I did have a mic, but not knowing about the chat function I did not have it turned on. I scrambled around for a second and finally put my headset on.

“Hey, you alright?” I said.

It turns out that he had been chased by the zombies for about five minutes and ran to the nearest structure he could find hoping to find shelter or protection. He thanked me for helping him. We compared our gear for a minute and traded a few items, beans for bandages, water for painkillers. He gave me some Makarov ammo to replace the ammo I used on the three zombies outside.

We talked for a moment more and decided that we should team up and venture into the wilderness to find some sort of humanity.

So, my second ever contact with human life on DayZ has been a good one. My faith in humanity has been restored, a little.

We opened the door and slowly walked into the forest.
