DayZ – Day 4

BFFs

Day 3 ended as me and my new bestest friend Marty headed off in to the endless rolling hills of Chernarus. We decided to take the high ground and follow the road until we find the next place of interest. We tried our best to stay within talking range but we did lose each other a few times. You have to constantly keep an eye on the other person because it is so easy to get turned around in this game, especially when walking through forests.

We trekked for what seemed miles, along the way we discovered the odd abandoned barn or shed, but we found nothing of use or interest. Somehow everything seemed to move quicker and I felt a little safer knowing I had a wing-man.

Another five miles passed until we saw our next target. In the far far distance we saw a huge building flanked by two huge pylons. It took us around ten minutes to reach this place, due to all the zombie dodging we had to do. We both learnt pretty early on in our DayZ experience that fighting is most definitely a last resort. We checked the exterior of the building for any zombies hiding, yes, we are paranoid at this point.

Unfortunately the building was empty, completely empty. All that effort for nothing, no supplies, nothing. There was, however, a ladder on the outside of the building that led to the roof. Marty climbed it first and gave me the all clear to follow.

The roof had three bodies on it. All human corpses, no sign of zombie attacks. We tried to work out what had happened. A trade that got ugly? A suicide pact? Trust me, they are all feasible. Or did they all just starve…

Then it struck us, and my heart sank. I turned around and looked down the ladder we had just climbed up. I counted at least seven zombies, just waiting at the bottom. We desperately searched for an alternate exit. We couldn’t find any such thing. We checked our supplies, we worked out that we probably wouldn’t last the night.
